Opened in 1880, The Station House formed part of the old North Kerry Line and also stood beside the remarkable Lartigue Monorail route to Ballybunion.
Today it combines cut-limestone architecture, distinctive double-arched sash windows and railway memorabilia with the warmth and practicality of an owner-occupied home. It is available only on selected dates.
Living Room
Relax in the Station Master's Living Room.
A large, comfortable dual-aspect room with a solid-fuel fireplace, generous seating and a collection of railway, literary and local memorabilia. It has a large smart TV with all the usual streaming services, as well as Irish and UK channels.
The room also includes a dedicated home office area, making it practical for longer stays, as well as an additional single bed with a high-quality mattress.
Farmhouse Kitchen
The heart of the house.
The farmhouse-style kitchen is designed for cooking, talking and lingering over meals. It includes a large dining table, gas cooker, solid-fuel range and all the everyday equipment needed for a relaxed stay. It opens directly on to the rear garden and outdoor dining area.
Bedroom One
The signature arched windows.
An upstairs double room framed by the Station House's distinctive double-arched cut-stone windows. The room is full of natural light and has one of the most recognisable architectural features in the house.
Bedroom Two
Beautiful double-arched decorative windows.
A second upstairs double room with original arched windows and a calm, comfortable atmosphere. It works especially well for couples or adult guests sharing the house.
Bedroom Three
Flexible sleeping for adults or children.
Bedroom three can be used in two weys:
- Adults: The lower bunkbed mattress has been replaced with a high quality 12-inch memoryfoam mattress suitable for two adults. The ladder to the top bunk can be removed when adults use the room. It then functions as a normal double bedroom.
- Kids: The full bunkbed accommodates three children, two downstairs, one upstairs. The room features a bedside light and a kids nightlight. The room is directly opposite Bedroom Two so parents can remain close at hand.
Bedroom Four
A premium ground-floor room.
Bedroom four is a ground-level premium room with a king-size bed, private ensuite and direct access to the garden through double doors.
Its location makes it particularly suitable for guests with less mobility who would prefer to avoid the stairs.
Family Bathroom
The main upstairs bathroom.
The family bathroom upstairs includes an electric shower for instant hot water, a bath, hair dryer and toiletries. Fresly laundered towels are provided for each guest.
Ensuite Bathroom
Private facilities for bedroom four.
The downstairs ensuite is directly connected to the premium ground-floor bedroom and includes a thermostatic shower.
This bathroom is typically used for all guests downstairs during the day and evening.
Garden
A private enclosed garden on the former train platform.
What was once part of the station platform is now a private enclosed garden with lawn, historic walls and direct access to the Greenway.
Outdoor Dining Area
Long evenings on the old platform.
The sheltered outdoor dining area is ideal for breakfast, drinks or an evening meal, with the historic station wall creating a uniquely atmospheric setting.

Ballybunion's beaches, cliffs and famous golf courses are within easy reach of the Station House.
It is close enough for a spontaneous trip to the beach, an evening walk on the cliffs or a day of golf, while still returning to the restaurants and atmosphere of central Listowel. A morning coffee in the sea air is a great way to start a day.
The Greenway
Step directly onto the old railway route.
The garden backs onto the Greenway, which follows the course of the former railway line towards Abbeyfeale.
It is ideal for walking and cycling, and gives guests an immediate connection to the transport history that shaped the house.
